Doctor John McManus
Dr. McManus has built a reputation as a caring, respectful psychologist over the past fourteen years in the Portland area. He is dedicated to providing a safe, confidential place where dreams, hopes and fears each of us have can be brought into awareness. He assists in addressing fears that stand in the way of being happy and whole. He honors and respects the path each of us chooses to find an ulitmate purpose to our lives. He gently guides each person through their struggles to ultimately reach their dreams. As a specialist in the areas of attention deficit disorders, learning disorders, Tourette's syndrome, and Asperger's syndrome, Doctor McManus brings a wealth of experience and understanding to those who are seeking to find ways to be successful in their lives, whether that be in the classroom, in a career, or in a significant relationship. His major interests are in assisting those he sees find happiness and fulfillment in their lives. He appreciates the role that parents often play in modeling relationships, and focuses on how a person can change patterns in their current relationships if their past is standing in their way. He believes in the value of creating a relationship that is healthy and whole with him and with significant others. This work often takes time, and there are no "quick fixes". Building a healthy relationship in the present is a skill that can be learned. Dr. McManus serves to guide and reassure his clients that this is, indeed, possible. Doctor McManus has given lectures throughout the Portland metropolitan area on topics such as treatment of attention deficit disorder. He has given presentations at meetings of CHADD, the national organization for children and adults with attention deficit disorder, and for various mental health workshops by national experts in the field such as John Ratey, M.D., coauthor of Driven to Distraction, Lynn Weiss, Ph.D., author of A.D.D. in Adults, Thom Hartmann, author of ADD--A Different Perspective, Wendy Richardson, author of ADD & Addictions , and Sari Solden, author of Women with ADD.
